The Philippine National IT Standard (PhilNITS) Fundamental Engineer (FE) certification exam is a result of an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan to have a common standard in the Asian region in measuring the competency of their IT engineers in the fundamentals of IT. It is now officially recognized by the Philippines and Japan, together with six other Asian countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Mongolia and Vietnam). The PhilNITS-FE examination is based on the certification program of the Japan Information Technology Engineers Examination Center (JITEC) which has the following structure and categories as illustrated.
